Want to get Android on your CDMA HTC Hero device? Android is being ported to many HTC devices, including a recent one which installed Android 2.0.1 on HTC Blackstone Windows Mobile Phone. If you are willing to put up with a Beta release which has some known issues, you can head over to the XDA Forums, where a forum member has put up a cooked ROM to bring Android 2.1 to your CDMA HTC Hero.

All Call and SMS functionality, Bluetooth, Android market (only protected apps not working), GPS, Signal meter are said to be working on this ROM. However Camera, Visual Voice mail and Multi Touch are yet to be fixed in a future version. Here are the steps to install this ROM which can be downloaded here:

1. Boot your phone in recovery mode and create a nandroid backup.

2. Select ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ menu option.

3. Apply the downloaded ROM zip file as a regular update.

4. After the first boot, which may take some time, restart it one more time.

Thanks for the great article, I’m very excited. I’ve had my phone for just over a month now and am actually taking part in the entire loose apps from the android marketplace, with the ability to have the internet and navigation at my fingertips the entire time. The only lower than concept function is the picture/video textual content messages, as they don’t seem to be downloading properly.
