Get Multi Touch Web Browser For Nexus One With Android 2.1

Want to get the cool Multi-Touch features on your Nexus One? Unfortunately due to some patent issues, Nexus One and also Motorola Droid released in US do not come with multi-touch. However by rooting your Android device, you can install a custom ROM with multi touch support or just a standalone multi touch supported application, such as web browser.

We have already written an article on how you could enable multi-touch on a Motorola Droid. Now here is some good news for the Nexus One owners. A forum member of XDA named Cyanogen, who is working on a custom ROM  for Nexus One, has released it’s Multi-Touch enabled web browser. You can either wait for the custom ROM to be out, or just grab the multi-touch web browser for your Google Nexus One.

Note that you need to first root your Nexus One for full file system access in order to install this custom browser.

Caution: You may lose your bookmarks and browser settings by doing this.

2. Add these files to your device from the adb shell with the following commands:

adb shell stop
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Browser.odex
adb push Browser.apk /system/app
adb push com.cyanogenmod.android.jar /system/framework
adb push com.cyanogenmod.android.xml /system/etc/permissions
adb shell reboot

After your phone reboots, you should be able to use multi touch in the web browser, even the pinch-to-zoom functionality.
