HTC Desire Custom ROM For Nexus One Alpha Version Released
HTC Desire has been recently unveiled at the Mobile World Congress and is set to be released in retail a couple of months from now. While HTC Desire has almost the same hardware as the Google Nexus One phone, it has some non-Nexus One features such as the HTC Sense UI, a unique graphical interface with cool widgets that is only found on HTC phones, the face recognition camera app, touch focus, and so on.
A Modaco forum member has cooked a custom HTC Desire ROM for Nexus One, with the HTC Sense UI included. An alpha version of this ROM is now available for download. The ROM has some known issues, such as the hardware incompatible FM radio, camera not yet recording at 720px, and so on. Otherwise the ROM is working well, and even has Flash 10.1 for Android included.
Before you install this custom ROM, you need to root your Nexus One for full file system access, and also unlock the bootloader. The ROM has the usual MCR tweaks (tun.ko, openvpn, busybox, dropbear etc.)
Other HTC custom ROMs that have been ported to Android phones include the HTC Espress port for G1 &MyTouch 3G, the HTC Hero Sense UI theme to Motorola Droid. There are also ports that have happened the other way, that is from Nexus One to HTC, such as the OpenEclair, an Eclair 2.1 ROM which brings Nexus One features to HTC Magic, T-Mobile G1, T-Mobile MyTouch 3G.
