Install Android 2.0.1 On HTC Blackstone Windows Mobile Phone

Android, the open source mobile OS from Google, is gaining popularity day by day. Windows Mobile phone users now have a chance to test Android on their devices. A forum member of XDA has given a port of Android 2.0.1 (Eclair) for HTC Blackstone (also called HTC Touch HD).

The method is to install Android on HTC phones using an emulation software called HaRET (Handheld Reverse Engineering Tool). HaRET is used for running Linux on the hardware of a Windows CE handheld.

As of now only some of the features are working for the Android port on Windows phones. While Call and SMS functionality, radio, Touch Screen, vibration mode, capacitive buttons, navigation wheel, keyboard, and brightness control are working just fine , other features such as sound, Wi Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, recharging etc are currently not working on this port.

Here are the steps for installation:

1. Download the Android 2.0.1(Eclair) build for HTC Blackstone/Touch HD.

2. Extract the zip file to your PC.

3. Copy or move all the extracted files to your SD card.

4. Run HaRET on your Windows Mobile device and let it boot Android for you.

Enjoy Android on your HTC Windows Mobile!

Yes, this type of phone is going to common now.
Dual System: Windows and Google Android. I see a cell phone on CNDIGIT’s website, they provides the model call Diamond T5353. Which has Dual System (windows and google android), GPS and WIFI etc..

I have tried to run this Android on the BlackStone and it works as it is described in the post. It’s as easy as copying it in the SD and run Haret from it. Be patient, the first time is slow and it seems to freeze, let it work, at last it will work already. If not, reset the phone and try it again.
One question, if it has neither GPRS, 3G, UMTS, EDGE and has no WiFi and only works the incoming and outgoing phone calls, but has no Sound, it can be used only to see how this machine can show Android, anything more.
